For over a month now, this title song has been our opening song of praise. You may observe that the song’s title both is a statement as well as a question: How great our God is. And, how great is our God? Either way, the title alone is quite profound because it puts us in awe of the creator of the universe—heaven and earth—everything above, in between, and beneath! Indeed, how great is our God!!
He and He alone is God—there is no other god beside Him. He is Alpha and Omega—the beginning and the end. When there was nothing, He always was. That means He has no beginning and He has no end. Whatever beginnings and whatever ends there may be as we reckon beginnings and ends, He knows the full spectrum—He knows the end from the beginning! In case you are wondering, yes, that is a good place to shout hallelujah!!! Hallelujah means praise be to God.
How great is our God? Our God is great! He is omnipotent—super powerful (all powerful). He can do anything. There is nothing, absolutely nothing too hard or difficult for Him to do. Whatever may lie beyond our capability is all too easy for our true and living God. You have heard it said: Our impossibilities are just His opportunities!
Not only is our God omnipotent, He is omniscient (all knowing). He knows everything. He sees and hears everything. He knows our every thought before we think them. There is nothing that He does not know. God in fact is the source of all knowledge. Jesus’ brother James, who became the bishop of Jerusalem, says in his general letter to Christians that if we want wisdom all we have to do is ask God. And you know what? He says God will lavish us with wisdom without any reproof or rebuke.
Not only is God omnipotent and omniscient, He is omnipresent—He is everywhere all the time, 24/7. There is no place anyone or anything can go where God is not. Climb the highest tree or climb the highest mountain and God is there. He is present in the deepest ocean and present in the deepest cave or deepest mine. God is above you. He is behind you. He is beneath you. God is in front of you. You and everything that exists are totally and completely ensconced in God!! I’ll say it for you—Hallelujah!!!
God is our all in all. He is the great I AM. He is El Shaddai, the all sufficient one. Whoever you are and wherever you may be, and whatever you may need, just ask Him—He is right there. How great is our God? He is Great!
